so i went to adjust my clutch (cable linkage, 69 cj5 v6) and found that the linkage rod that connects the pedal to the rear-most tube is worn about half-way though where it connects to the tube, and the part it attaches to on that rear-most tube has had the hole elongated like crazy.

short of removing both from the vehicle and welding everything back to spec (which i would love to do asap), what's a good temporary fix? i'm assuming i have to pull the tranny to get that rear-most clutch linkage tube out. my jeep is my daily driver so i can't really afford to pull the tranny until i can start riding my bike again in the spring.

will JB-weld make things better or worse (assuming it's applied with some sense of professionalism)

I can unbolt mine from the frame and drop it out without messing with transfer case. Don't know if JB-Weld will hold..

Should be able to un-bolt the pivot ball from the frame to get the tube down. All-metal or jb-weld will be a very temporary fix as that rod has friction and pressure working against it.

heim joint upgrade time!!! weld a tab to the bolt to fill in the wear on the lever arm then use a nut and washer on the ball joint
I've seen the joints at Lowe's and ace, temporary upgrade that could be permanent :)

I welded washers over the worn holes, and made a heim jointed link.

Herm has those shafts and there not that expensive hiem bushing work really well. Like walts said you should be able to take out by un bolting the bracket from the frame. Then the ends of the round shaft will be worn and wallowed out.So that why you should just replace the rear shaft. For the front you could probly put a washer and bolt through the hole dab a bit of JB weld the oblong then anther washer and bolt th heim bushing on. In other word, sandwich the JB weld between two washers while its still pliable

My jeep has this problem also. But since I don't like the through the floor pedals it will be getting a hydro clutch setup. Mine is so bad when it is adjusted the whole way there is a ton of play in the clutch pedal.

Only way to fix it right is to either reweld it and redrill, weld washers on it as Patrick suggested or replace the worn parts. Go with Herm's parts though, the offshore crap I bought was way off spec and I had to rework them to get it to work. I ended up making my own rods from round stock because the crappy repros were so thin they kept bending.
