Found someone sell a 69 CJ5, they say it is in good shape. The problem is they are giving a Bill of Sale, No Title. Do not know if there is a Vin Plate on the Jeep. Can you get a title issued from a bill of sale for a older vehicle. Has anyone been down this road. Is it a waste of time looking at this Jeep. I live in Kentucky

Where is the jeep located? In the state of Alabama there would never have been a titled issued on any early cj. My 71 still doesn't have a title for it to this day. Its never had one period. My tags and registration were issued from a bill of sale and I have 17years of tags to prove I own it. When I did the tag, they inspected the serial number, ran the number and then issued me a registraion and tag. You can get a title most of the time from Broadway title if needed.

What you need depends on your state. MA only requires a bill of sale for vehicles that old.

Do an internet search for registry rules for Kentucky. Open Google, type in "registering a vehicle in Kentucky", read the state registry web page and you'll likely find your answer.

Theoretically there would be many members here with multiple titles from parts Jeeps that have been collecting dust in the file cabinet.

    Steve,
In Ohio if you buy a jeep by bill of sale then get it running and want to tag it, The first thing is they will ask for a title. If you do not have a title they will run a search on the vin# or serial # on older jeeps. If it comes up stolen and the owner wants it back you will be out what ever you have in it. Simple as that, gone, I don't know what Kentucky will do in that case. Give the BMV a call in the morning.
