    New turn signal question!

65 CJ 6, 4 cylinder. I have spent several hours over the last 2 days looking for the answer on every post I could find. I have a Peterson Manufacturing, 7 wire turn signal switch. Everything works except the brake lights, which I am still checking for the bad brake light switch. The problem I have is that the blue wire from the switch was connected to a molded female 3 prong connector that is just above the heater motor. It makes no difference to the switch function if the blue wire is connected or not. From the diagrams I have seen here, the blue should be to apply power to the flasher. The flasher had a red wire with a white tracer that had been cut. When I hook that wire to a 12 v + source, everything works except the brake lights. I can troubleshoot the switch easy enough, but want to know what the right connections should be for the blue wire. This is a great site! I have been lurking and learning for several months! Thanks!

Easy test for that is to connect the brake light switch plug terminals at the master cylinder and see if the brakes lamps light. A helper or a mirror makes it easy.

I just did this on mine.... at first, i thought it was a wiring problem... my turn signals are the 7 wire signal stat 800. If i wired it like they have it, when i put on the hazards, i had blinking brake lights.... do you have this? if so - your next step (at least what i did) was open the hood - and look down on the frame on drivers side on the engine - there should be a pressure switch with 2 wires (mine are brown wires here) with the battery disconnected - i cut those wires, stripped and hooked them together - then hooked the battery up - this should make the power constant to the brake lights - so they should be on - if they are, then you have a bad pressure switch (they sell them at napa) if they arent.... then you still have a wiring problem... hope this helps.... also - for wiring guide and schematics http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Tech/SignalWiring.html this page helped me tremendously - good Luck!

I guess my original lengthy problem description sort of diluted my real question. Where does the blue wire from the signal switch go? I believe I have it figured out! That wire connects to the normally open side of the (currently bad) brake light switch. If I connect 12 volts + to that wire I have brake lights. I haven't found where it is supposed to connect under the dash but at least I know how it is supposed to be connected. When I got the jeep, that blue wire was plugged into 1 socket of a molded 3 socket female plug that comes from the wiring harness right above the heater motor on the drivers side. I suspect that is not the place for it.

I haven't repaced the brake light switch to this point because a complete brake job is imminent, including rebuilding or replacing the master cylinder.

Don't know what model you have but the info I got on the model 500 is the blue wire goes to the pilot indicator lamp.

Making progress, the wiring issue has been resolved. The blue wire from the Peterson 7 wire turn signal switch connects to the 3 female molded connector, ( from the wiring harness right above the heater) to the brown wire, which comes from the "cold" terminal on the brake light switch connected to the master cylinder. The other terminal on the brake light switch hooks to 12 volts + on the ignition switch. Both wires connected to the brake light switch were brown in the original wiring harness.
