Alterations to glass top and doors?

First question for the brainiacs: What was the first year they offered a fiberglass top and solid doors for the cj5?

Next is, does anyone have experience (or ever heard of) altering a later yr glass top and solid doors to fit on a 60's cj5?

I know they made metal for my yr ('62) but dont like them much. Just wondering if the fab work is too daunting or even possible for less than an expert to tackle--that would be meR)

On My 1973 all that was needed to use my buddies 76-83 Fiberglass top was for me to get a 76 and newer windshield frame and hinges and later lower hinges. All bolt on stuff except for the lower hinges, I had to drill the holes for them.

After that it fit on my 73 cj5 like it did on my buddies 78 cj5.

 

There was never a factory fiberglass CJ5 top, they were all aftermarket. Several different companies made them, but ACME was the most common. They made them in both the 55-75 and 76-83 versions. As dsrt4 indicated, the only difference between the two eras when it comes to top fitment is the windshield, which can be interchanged. If you find a later model top, you can swap to a later model windshield and use it.

There is a company making new fiberglass tops for CJ5's that have supposedly developed a version for the 55-75 models, but I can't remember their name offhand.
