What should my fuel pressure be? PO installed an electric fuel pump and it died. Would a universal pump that is 4 to 7 psi be to much?

The manual says 3 3/4 lbs at 600RPM, fuel return line pinched off, 2 1/2 lbs not pinched off so 4lb *might* be OK, 7 I think would be very much pushing it although it sounds like it was working good with the old pump until it crapped.

Yeah I found out it is a NAPA pump. It shows pressure to be 3.6 to 5.5 and 16.8 gallons per hour. The store here in town has one in stock so I guess I will be getting one tomorrow.

So I installed the new fuel pump and now it will not stay primed. I know there is fuel in the tank but I wonder if it is to low.

Right by the tank about close to the top of the tank. I did not change anything. This is still the set up it started with. It ran fine until the old pump went out.

Try reposition the pump so it's a little lower. Electric pumps are great at pushing fuel, not so great at sucking even when they're close to the tank.

So I fixed the fuel problem. It was something blocking the pick up tube in the tank. Now after I drive it and shut it off it will not restart. It cranks and cranks but seems to have no spark. Sometimes during this cranking I get nothing from the switch. If I let it sit for a bit it will crank again but still not start until it is cooled down. I have power at the coil. I grabbed the back of the Ign switch when its cranking and it is getting really hot. I was gonna see if I had power while cranking but I had no one to help me. So I am thinking Ign Switch or ballast resistor?

You'll definitely want to clean the contacts at the ignition switch, kind of a common problem with these things. As far as not starting, there's a bypass wire from the starter solenoid to the + side of the coil that supplies full circuit voltage during start, once it's running current goes from the ignition switch through the resistor to the coil. If it started then quit running when the key was released I'd suspect resistor or wiring. Clean up the switch connections first and see what happens.

All I did today was charge the battery and it started within half a crank and was running strong.

I wanted to. I decided to leave it be for tonight. I am going to rebuild the carb this weekend. Thanks for all your help.
