Wiring Diagrams

Help!! I need wiring diagrams for a 70 CJ-5 with a 225 Buick V6...a complete wiring diagram would be nice...you know...headlights to tail lights...I am kinda lost. Thanks so much!! If someone could email it to me, circusaminal@aol.com, it would be greatly appriciated!

IIRC my old Chilton manual has several in the back.

 

yeah but if its like my Chilton book, you cant read the type, I found that apparently they all use the same wiring schematic, only its reduced in size on my big Chilton book and the type is illegible. I found the Haynes book(although not good for much lol) has a better copy of this schematic. if it wasnt for copyright laws I would just copy and post it but we all know how hard that would come down on us pirates

 

i have a set, but its a hard copy. i have all the wiring for the 134's and the 225's. i got them off ebay when i was wiring mine. ii dont have a scanner, but i could send you a copy or the originals if the copies dont come out, let me look for them and i will get back to you. i just moved so i will go through my boxes tonight

 

Thanks so much, I would really appriciate that. I am getting very irritated because just when I think I am going to get somewhere, I don't!! My chilton's diagram sucks, you can't tell which goes where. I got a link today, but it came out blurry, and I tried to scan it to see if I could enlarge it, and that didn't work either...I just got a bunch of new parts for it and I can't put them on!! It's in beautiful condition otherwise, just needs to be cleaned up in the wiring. I will post some pics this weekend so you guys can drool...hehe.

 

Where can I locate one? Just looking for one now.

Hey heres a thought, you know you can always make copies at your local library. I dont know about yours, but the local library here has factory manuals on most vehicles. whenever I get stuck, I go there, the wiring diagrams on those are very detailed and large so you can see everything. Best of all, its only a per page copy and you usually can get away with a buck or so and have all you need.

They even have a write up on how I did a replaced my wiring harness one wire at a time. (I am not all that professional when it comes to restorations. But I am cheap :>)

While you have a CJ5 The CJ3B is basically the same jeep with a different front clip.

Regarding wiring your jeep, one area I would highly suggest is overdoing your ground. Ground from the negative side of your battery to the frame, body and motor! Do all three. And you’ll find your electrical system does much better. I would recommend using braided ground wire.

I once had a 1953 M38A1 military Jeep. When I would start it, the choke cable would get hot. It finely hit me, it was getting the best ground from the choke cable (that was attached to the dash board.) I put a ground directly from the motor to the battery and it started much faster. And the choke cable never got hot again.

 

I think that came from me, and I found it some where on the web. I sent it to Tim when he was rewiring Lulu. This has been requested so often maybe it can be stored here on the baord?

If you can get a wiring diagram from a '72 - '75 service manual it will give you colors and wire gauges and fuse values. The service manuals for 71 and earlier don't show anything except for where each wire goes.

The two jeeps are electrically just about identical.

 

Regarding help on your wiring harness, there is some good information at this website: http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Tech/WiringHarness.html these are jeeps that are about 10 years plus older than yours, but the basics will be the same.

It also has a small write up of my cheap $ 50.00 rewire job. I have done 2 of them and still staying in that price range.
