First of all, I finally found this forum and this is my first post. After reading many threads I am very impressed with the responces. I am currently traveling Mexico and beyond in my Motor Home and broke down a purchased a 1978 CJ5 (mexican made) to use as my toad. Well, all was going fine untill I got the new tires and the local decided to crossthread my lugs. In which case I proceeded to replace them. and found more problems. I have the same looking brakes as this thread http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69264 but because i am VERY limited on parts here, the perfect match was from a Ford F150 ( about a 1975 ). Everything matched prefect. Now here lies the issue:
I have always had a front wheel brake problem so I decided to just buy new calipers, master cyl, booster, brake line and front wheel hoses. Basicly all is new. But now the calipers do not retract and keep the front wheels locked. I can not even put a braker bar on a lug nut to turn the wheels. On my right side i tooke out the support spring and it seems fine,, BUT NOT RIGHT, but when I put the support springs in it locks up the wheels. I tested the calipers and they are VERY HARD to push in even whith out of the Jeep. They are NEW though. I am wondering if maybe it could be a propotion valve?
Also, this jeep has had many Mexican owner and I have found so many parts are from ... PS-chevy, MC-Ford mustang, Barkes-Ford, etc. i know these are common swaps but its getting to be a pain finding parts.
What would cause the calipers to not retract? Again, all new parts. Only thing NOT is the porportion valve. I am about 99.9% sure I will never find a vavle from any jeep here. Does anyone know of one from a normal everyday car or truck with front disk brakes that would work? I am so lost on this issue. If more info is needed, just ask. Thanks ahead.

First, you did replace the master cylinder with a disc brake MC and not a drum brake MC? If it was a disc MC then check which fluid chamber the front disc are hooked to, it should be the larger of the two. The reason for my line of question is it sounds like the calipers are connected to a chamber with a residual pressure valve in it. If it a drum brake MC both ports will have a RPV, disc MC only has one for the drum brake port.
    PS Welcome to the forum.

Thank you, Yes, It has a large bowl and a small bowl, I made sure to hook up the front to the large bowl. This MC fits (from what I was told by the box) a Mustang from 1972-76 with disk brakes like a Mach 1 .. the larger Mustangs. If this could be the case is there a way to test or find out? Here, I just took these for you.

When the brakes are locked on, try opending the bleeder. If they release instantly, then you definitely have a line presure issue. If they still hold strong with the bleeder open, you may have gotten defective calipers.

Sorta, it was our gringo spanish version for "fat adventure".. dont want to be rude while in Latin America. Some people think its a religious think, which I guess you could say is sorta true in a way. ..... But its not really a spanish word so we are safe :)

Ok.. just an update for you folks.. I decided to bite the bullet and buy all NEW OEM calipers, hoses and a new master cylinder. even though I have already done this once, I just want to be sure I get the right parts that work. Not a Jimmied rig. So, looks like about 250 bucks for the parts and 200 for shipping to Mexico plus 17% duty OUCH!!! If this does not fix it, i would still be back to the proportion valve.
