I have a length of stainless about 5 foot by 1.5 or 1.75 don't remember. I want to do a 1 piece rod on my 73 D30. Would Stainless work or is it to hard a material? I still have the Ross box on my 62 but the passenger spindle is made for 2 rods so I want to set it up like Boyink did on Dutch.

Probably the most common stainless would be 304, which is a bit soft, usually about the same as a #2 bolt. That said, at either 1.5 or 1.75", you will have an extreme amount of overkill. The downside is that it will weigh more than twice what a normal tie rod would. Will it work? Yes
