Have you tried adjusting the float level? It could be too high. Sometimes setting one "by the book" just don't work. Maybe put in a different needle and seat? When it starts stalling out do you smell gas, it may be flooding out. It's probably something simple. A word of caution on rebuilt carbs; I've seen some real crappy "remanufactured" carbs, including stuff like mismatched jets, warped castings, etc.

Here is the deal. Sounds to me like you may have the same problem the po had on my dj, bought a carb kit, put together almost correct, expect had a metering tube twisted so only one side of the holes lined up and other side blocked off. (only getting half the fuel) I also worked on a Green tractor that had a bb in the bottom of the tank and would plug the hole on occasion, when it died the bb would bounce out and run fine.

Well, I took it apart and couldn't figure it out - looks like everything is right, so I am packing it up and sending it to Charlie Price at Vintage Speed in Florida for a rebuild.

Do you still have the exhaust manifold thermostat valve on the exhaust system? Is it broken or stuck closed? Just a thought.

OK - thought I'd report back to close the loop. I sent my carb to Charlie Price at Vintage Speed to rebuild ... he did a great job and the thing looks brand new. Anyways, he said that one of the passages inside the carb was completely clogged (even though I had let it soak in a bucket of carb cleaner - I guess not long enough).

Installed it and my Jeep runs great now.

Good to hear your back running.
Do you have a fuel filter inline? Just another piece to keep the crud out of that nice carb.
