OK, another power steering question. My 74 has manual saginaw box that uses 3 of the 4 bolts. I picked up the engine bracket and pump today and need to get the parts together. Will an after market HD power steering mount like the one Big Daddy makes bolt in?

I have decided against too much front stretch, but I will stretch a few inches and need to move the steering box forward a bit, but not enough to warrant extending the frame and sleeving it as the mount.

I presume you mean a mount for the steering gear. Only if it's made specifically for the '72-75 CJ. A mount for a '76 or later will not fit.

It's been years since I built my 7, but isn;t the mount for the 7s bolt to the inside of the non boxed portion of the front frame? I'm just trying to decide if its worth cutting out the front crossmember for the mount i'll build vs buying a mount and cutting part of the frame to make it fit.

I built a mount for my '75 out of 3/8's plate that mounted in the stock holes and location with out cutting up the frame. My frame was already modified but it didn't affect the steering box mount. You can build it with dimensions to allow you to slide the steering box forward an inch or two.

OK, so after looking at how far I want to push my axle forward...I'm thinking I'll keep it to 5-6" forward and run the draglink behind the tie rod instead on front like a normal inverted Y. I may taper the Waggy one, or just build new tie rod and draglink out of 1.5" .25 wall DOM like I have done it the past.
this will allow me to keep the box in the same place and use the same mount. If I ever go to a larger tire like a 37, I can push the axle out a bit farther and then add to the front of the frame and mount the box farther forward.

I'm thinking 6" stretch up front and eventually 6" out back (after I rewire and geta fuel cell) will put me a 95" wheelbase which should work well.
