Perhaps your body does have a few rust issues, but if it were mine, I think that one would get put back together completely stock with a new tub if needed. I would have a severe case of guilt modifying it. Unmolested old CJ's are getting hard to find, especially one with a stock 98.

I vote for stock. I just got my 66 and I am working on returning it to stock. If you were closer I would be glad to help you remove all those old stock parts for free.R)

Good find. Just out of curiosity what did it cost? (Only if you don't mind)

I'd love to keep the Jeep and fix it up for a daily driver, but with the tax man asking for some $$$, my wife's Cherokee needing a new engine and the general condition of the economy it seems that I am going to have to sell it (and possibly one of my motorcycles as well). I got the Jeep back in July. Traded a '96 Kawasaki KLR650 motorcycle and $100 for it (I had about $2200 in the bike). As it stands I've got about $2500 in the Jeep and that is the price I have been advertising it at on CL. You'd think someone would jump on it at that price but seems that no one has any cash these days (me being one of them). I have been offered tv's, import cars and atv's, but thus far nothing I can really use, what or need. I may be breaking down and listing the Jeep on ebay next week.
The thing the Jeep needs most are seats (current ones are split and have no adjustment which keeps the driver crammed up on the steering wheel), alternator (one that is on there now (a P.O. swapped in an alternator inplace of the original generator) is only charging at 11-12v and a ez or painless rewiring kit. Of course even though those things are relatively minor, they are just more than my budget can handle right now. I'd love to see the Jeep go to someone who will do it right rather than see it go to some kid who is looking for a muddin' buggy. But once it hits ebay I have no control over that. Even if I do sell the CJ5 once I get everything else in order and paid up I hope to find another Jeep, maybe another CJ5, 6 or even a Commando (always liked the look of those, even the ones with the non-Jeep style nose).

Sorry to hear the bad news. That is one fine looking CJ5 If you were closer to SE Ia I would buy it from you and when you were ready I'd sell it back to you. (Wife would hate this idea but to a fellow jeeper I can make things happen) If you would like deliver it, I will make the deal happen. Really sorry to hear the bad news.
