What is the best way to mount a 225 and transmission and have it square? I've tried to measure from the front cross member back to get the mount coming off the motor sorta square, but when I try to line up the transmission's center line with the center of the frame it throws the front off square. How should I do this? should I just use the center line of the frame and the center line of the motor and tranny and not worry if it is square. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

Psst - if you measure to the motor mounts on the engine from the front face, you will see that it is offset.

I hang the engine, tranny, tcase in the frame rails. Line up the front by the crank/water pump (CL is 14.5" from P Side - pics if you want them) and the rear by the output yoke. Are you keeping the tranny cross member mounted in the stock location, or are you moving it? Even if you move it forward (I am assuming your keeping the T90 and may be wrong) you can use the cross member to keep the alignment at the cross member.

I'm using a T-14 transmission and I was going to move the cross member. I don't have the transfercase bolted up yet. Should it be? I was using the output shaft on the transmission would that work too?

That will work for keeping the engine square, not with lining up the yoke for outputs. I prefer to do it with the TCase on as well so I am sure to watch the clearance around it for exhaust and such. Might just be 'my way', but that's how I have always done it.

T14, T90 - same basic measurement side to side - front to back only a inch or so difference.

If you could send me some pictures that would be great. Because I'm having one Horrible time figuring this outmehh. What's the margin for error in a project like this +/- .5" through out it's length or is it much less? Thanks for the help again

E-Mail sent - and for the record +/- .5" is good enough - just make sure the front drive shaft does not hit the motor in flex.

2nd the +/- 1/2 inch. Given the angles the driveshafts go through with spring flex, a 1/2 inch will not make much difference. I would error towards having the front aimed to the left for the front driveshaft clearence, as noted above. Trying to get an engine in perfect alignment is both an exercise in frustation and a waste of time. I too spent a lot of time on this and am sure it is still probably a half inch out. It has been that half inch out for 3 engines and 35 years.
