Has anyone removed their tank from the inside of the vehicle? If so, where do you place it and how big of a tank do you use? I realize that out back seems to be the logical place-but what about the triangular frame in the rear?

Rear tank is a common mod - I built a custom tank that sits inside the frame in the rear and holds 18 Gal. I did remove the tow supports and moved the rear cross member forward for fit.

I welded up a 25 gal tank for my 3B out of 14 gage. To fit it in, I outboarded the rear frame cross member (original was rusted out anyway). The depth is 14 inches which might work with a 2.5 to 3 inch lift. My floor pan is recessed an inch and a half into the body and there is a 1 inch body lift so there is 2.5 inches of height available that would not be in a stock configeration. The braces were removed (new rear cross member is strong enough that they were no longer needed) and the body mounts off the center cross member were relocated over the frame rails. A late CJ5 or a CJ 7 filler assembly can be used. I used an 11 gal Confer tank in the same location for years but obviously was not a capacity improvement over stock and I still needed jerry cans to go anywhere. I have not used a jerry can since installing the 25 gallon version.

*******, I added a couple of "butt" jpgs to my 3B album showing the rear/skid plate of the tank. I should have taken a tank pic before I put it in but didn't. It comes out very close to the rear shackles so I installed hard urethane rub strips along the sides where the shackles might rub-has worked well for 2 years.
