Hey there everyone, I've been away from my jeeps and this board for awhile. Got my s--t together and am beginning a new project. I have aquired a '52 M38A1 in stock condition, no motor or running gear. Awsome body, has been in the Nevada desert all its life, so NO RUST. I've begun a frame off, and intend to lift it 4", with 33's, and a mildly rebuilt buick odd-225 I have from another jeep attached to a T-18.

I've removed the stock axles, and want something like D30 front and D44 rear.
I'm headed to the junk yards this week-end, looking for axles. What should I look for, Vehicle types, in terms of ease of swap, width, and what gear ratio should I be thinking about for my driving style, mostly rough trail running, and nasty weather?

Also, I have not yet scored a transfer case, any junk yard suggestions?

    Any advice is appreciated

What will you run for T-case? If a Dana 20 or 300, I'd look for a 72-75 flanged 44 rear and D30 front.

Personally - I would stay with a D18 Tcase so you can put an OD in it. With that you can gear the axles to 4:88 or 5:38 for trails and run with the OD on the road. That would mean sticking with the offset Rear. If you want more strength, put a FF from Herm in the rear.
