hey guys little new around here and was wondering on your opinion on this.
i have a 66 cj5 with a f134 engine. it runs pretty good but had a bad exhaust leak from the #4 cylinder at the manifold. when i removed the manifold the stud looked like it had been broken for quite some time and i got the jeep recently so i dont know how long its been leaking. it looked oily in the exhaust port so i did a compression test and got 130 lbs on the front 3 cylinders and 110 on #4 and it would smoke a bit if you reved it up. do you think possibly burnt valve from exhaust leak? is it worth pulling the head to check things out? if it is can a new valve be put in with the engine still in the jeep im not used to this design with the valves in the block. thanks for the help

110# isn't too bad. Did you fix the exhaust leak? If it runs good, no misses and doesn't use too much oil as in fouling plugs why don't you just run it as is for a bit. That might give you a better idea of what work it needs if any.

    what Glenn said
typically, a burnt valve will get you a very noticable spit or two out the exhaust pipe at idle. You can put your hand near the pipe and feel it spit at you. It will smooth out if you rev the engine slightly.
