I've got a 71 CJ5 with a side mount spare tire, we took it apart in March and have been rebuildign it since. We can't figure out where the right rear side marker lens goes???? Anyone have any pictures of theirs?

The right side marker light is in the same relative position as the left side. The only difference is the left side has a recess built into the body and the right side doesn't. Strange huh?

Holy Shizs that was a quick response. That's what we kinda figured, but since it's so close to the tire moutn (which we don't have on), we we're not quite sure. Thanks a ton

    6 years later......

Same question applies. I've looked through the forum but all the links to pics of the passenger side, rear, spare tire mounted marker light are all too old of links. Please post a recent pic of where the marker should go or if there is a special unit needed. I can't find any on the vendors I've searched.

the original factory location from about 1969 and later was inside the side mounted tire carrier, see pic below.
If you want to match the drivers side, take your measurments, drill your holes, and mount it the same on the lower pass side.

Don't know who posted this, but it's wrong if the Jeep has a side-mounted spare. The recess exists in the PS panel only if the Jeep has a solid back panel (ie, only Renegades before 1973).

The original light goes in the middle of the spare tire bracket. The original lens is round, not rectangular like on the other side. If you have the original spare tire mount, there shouid be two small holes in the outer surface that the screws go into for the light. The harness is long enough to go through the hole in the fender and into the back of the lens. The bulb and socket is the same as on the DS, but the harness is longer. There's a grommet that goes into the hole in the fender.

Here's my first '75 that came with a side mounted spare.

The mechanic that did the delivery on my Jeep mounted the original lens in the hole in the fender, and plugged the holes in the body for the original mount. I think the hole is large enough to accept the back of the lens, but new holes were needed for the mounting screws.

Here's my 75, last year for the sidemount. That's the original light fixture, carefully held together with glue, but it works.

Thank you to everyone for the links. Now where might I get a replacement unit? The spare tire holder we installed doesn't have the center hole, so that's why I never figured upon that location. Guess I've got some drilling to do.

the Jeep part number for the lamp inside the tire carrier was 994035.
old dealer stock or ebay or wanted to buy here in the classifieds.
I wonder if Grote or truck aftermarket might have something similar ???
