Does anyone have any pictures or info on how they went from the old ross manual steering to power saginaw steering. Like what steering boxes will work, what columns, how to make a steering shaft, where to get tie rods? thanks for all the help

I just traded for a CJ5 and want to do a steering conversion on it. Got it from a fireman in Boaz just down the road from you Mcruff (traded him a dual sport bike for it). He said it was a 65 but serial number search shows it to be manufactured in 3/66. Decent shape, had all body rust repaired, light surface rust on frame (which I plan to deal with this winter when I pull the body and redo the suspension). Engine is a F134, tuned it up yesterday (points, plugs & wires) & changed oil today, runs decent enough but I don't care for the Carter carb, probably gonna install a Solex. Planning to build this into a daily driver/light trail rig. Any & all help would be appreciated.

How do you attach the tie rod and drag link to the passenger knuckle, I looked through the thread and couldn't find a good picture since a lot of the pics are deleted. Do you guys think I could swap in a XJ box and column? My buddy has a beater xj that we broke the unibody on and he could probably sell me all the steering parts.

There are a couple of ways to attach the TREs (tie rod end).
    1. Is to get a TRE with the a hole for another TRE.
    2. Get a knuckle off a Wagon (truck?). The early style Willys wagon had a D25 front axle and the pass side knuckle has two TREs holes.

Yea, it's a PBB link but has lots of info. It is mostly about high steer and 1 ton links but there are pictures at the bottom that show how a TRE connects to another.

Best I could find on a short search.

    Edit:
look at this thread, has a good picture of the parts:

Yes you could use the XJ steering box, the column would work also with some mods!

Honestly your best bet is to call Herm and ask him.....he's never steered me wrong (he he), nor have I heard any bad from others......and he's a wealth of knowledge on these old rigs
