I have a 52 3A. It has the original starter with the push pedal on the floor. I recently converted to 12 volt. I know that I have to be careful not to let it turn over too many times however about half of the time when I start it up acts as if it is binding up and cannot turn. I obviously stop immediately and try again then will turn over correctly and start up. It is a god awful sound. It does not seem to be getting worse, but any ideas on what that is and how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

it is the gear that is on your flywheel. It is what the starte connects with to turn the engine over.

I have a different subjestion. Adjust the starter button. The thing on top of the starter that the leaver pushes on. it screws in and out. play with it turning it 1/2 a turn or so in ether direction till it stops. My dad's truck did that untill I fine turned the button.
