After seeing Kirk's jeep with a few scuffs from rolling over I figure I need to do something until I can get the tools to build a cage.

I picked up a roll bar night before last that was used on a cj5.

After getting it home and looking at the mount possibilities I got to thinking that I'm not sure if I've ever seen a cj-6 with a factory mounted roll bar. So... if anyone has a pic of one, or a homemade single bar I'd like to see how you got it situated.

    Thanks,
    -Dave

There was no "factory" roll bar for the CJ-6.

If the customer wanted a roll bar, he'd get a Smittybilt bar made for the CJ-6. Here's a picture of my CJ-6 with a Smittybilt bar:

Mounts to the floor behind the seats. An angle iron goes rearward from the hoop at the level of the wheel house, to meet the down tubes.

If it is a stock cj-5 it should bolt through the fender well just like a CJ 5. A CJ 6 is just a longer CJ5, right?

It will. However, I expect the CJ-5 bar will be too far back to offer any protection.

The P.O. installed this and although I had a OEM 75 CJ-5 roll bar, I retianed this for now as I didn't want to drill even more holes to install the stock bar which looked very close to this one. It's bottom plate had vertical sides with bolts going through the tub above the rear tires. Yes, I know these are weak. I only retained this incase there was a light roll over to one side, this bar and the windshield COULD stop me from going all the way over (wheels up) and pinning me under the Jeep via the steering wheel and or windshield. I plan to use a spare CJ-7 bar and cut the foward feet and reweld the plates to match the floor of the 6. Then add supports under the tub.

I had a Smittybilt roll bar on my old 64 Cj-6. It was like a CJ-5 roll bar except the veritcal legs went all the way to and bolted to the floor behind the driver's and passenger side seats. The angle iron brace bolted to the fender wells and through the sides of the body like a Cj-5 roll ar.

    OnlyInAJeepCj,
If I install this bar I'm going to be in the same boat as you. Considering I don't have a bender I'm contemplating now of cutting the base plate off and extending the legs of the main bar to reach the floor. Let the angle iron reach for the wheel wells.

It's tough to pull that drill out when I already know this is temporary until I have the resources to build a safety cage, but at the same time, I feel as you probably do in that it is a requirement in case of any roll over.

I may have found an stock roll bar out of a cj8. Seems to me that this might be a possible solution if I chop the back angled bars to meet my wheel wells.

    what to do...what to do...
