Rivets in Floor?

Picked up my first early CJ-5. It's a '55. It's in excellent shape and I know I am the third owner and that it was restored by Willys of Minneapolis and owned by Louis Larson. What I find strange is that the it appears the floors are neatly riveted in and so are the hat channels. Only the tops of the rivets are visible, there is no evidence of the bottom of a rivet underneath. This can't be normal, can it?

Are they pop rivets or solid rivets?

 

Definitely not pop rivets. There is little to no evidence of them from underneath and not the usual pop rivet mushroom. They seem to be solid, but do have a small center hole like a normal pop rivet.

 

They use rivets to assemble trailers, I would think they would do the job in your Jeep as long as they aren't pop rivets.

 

The rivets work great and have held for 25 years, they just are not original.

 

Flat headed rivets in a countersink hole? Seems like alot of work.:?

 

Which boggles my mind that someone would not just spot weld them. Whoever did the resto used a welder to close up other holes in the body. It's all a mystery.

It should be easy for me to drill out the rivets and drop a spot weld in.
