im kinda puzzled about the best ways for auto body work so here is a couple questions i wonder

    1. whats the best way to repair a large dent from a roll over:) in a flat panel (below the door about size of a fist or baseball)
would one try and pop it out with hammer , or get a gas welder and heat up the dent and try and pop it out or simply cut the dent out with a grinder, or use the slide hammer way not sure which way to go about with it

another words whats your method to do bodywork on your jeep?

    2. i don't see any reason why you can't use a gas welder to weld in floor panels or patches instead of a mig? or is this one of those cases most people would use a mig instead

Depending on the dent - metal has a memory. I would put a dolly on the middle dent, tap the outer ring with the hammer to let it come back up.

I used to use gas to weld the body metal - the trick is to keep the heat down so you don't get warpage in the metal. The MIG is just SO much easier to do this with a spot weld at a time.

thats good to know on the gas welder from what i keep finding is for me a gas welder is cheaper and im better at it then i am with mig

as far as dents go im assuming thats one without a creases in it

how much does a typical auto body hammer weigh?

Back in the '80's I used my oxy-acetylene torch to weld in patches. Heat control and warping was always an issue but I could do it. Mig is just SO much easier!! I have torches, stick and mig now. Mig would be my choice for panel repair. I still use the torches to cut and heat stuff. I have a Miller 185(mostly used on equipment) but I'd still like to pick up a small 110 volt mig for most Jeep repairs. A little practice with a mig and you'll get the hamng of it.

About like a small ballpen hammer. They have different faces for different strokes - rough face is for shrinking.

I use my torch all the time for sheet. I have a mig, and sometimes I use it to tack when I have to hold something with one hand. I have a tig/stick, also, but I come back to the torch. If you are good with a torch and you like to use it, forget the mig. My jeep is a hobby, so time is not an issue. As for a body hammer, 8-16 ounces. Any ole hammer will work if it's all you have. I like an oak egg shaped hammer for beatin out indents , but everyone has their own way.

if you can get it close by beating off dolly or on it to stretch the metal into rough shape , then when you have to much metal use a pick hammer to shrink ,if it oil cans use heat the size to a quarter and quench with water. every body will have a different way can you show us a pic..........
