got a hold of a 74 cj5 with a amc 258 in it. It has been sitting for a long time and i am getting ready to tear into it. I have one issue the engine has had a bunch of stuff pulled off it and I am no expert on this model of v6. I was wondering if anyone has any sources for AMC engines or if any of you have any similar rigs that you might have pictures of i would greatly appreciate any help.

it is missing stuff like the water pump pulley, fan and it looks like a lot of the vacuum lines have been removed. I am more worried about the vacuum lines than anything i guess. I have one of the kelley books but doesnt seem to be of much help in this department.

The best place for you to start would be the factory manual, available here http://thejeep.com/shop/TECH+MANUAL....html?osCsid=35310345a33362de59cafdae3dccc37b and lots of other places on-line. You could also make use of the factory parts manual http://www.bjsoffroad.com/CartGenie/prod-683.htm which will show you a drawing of each system and how the parts fit together.

You could try a Jeep junkyard like J&W in Antelope, CA for the pulley http://www.jwjeep.com/ - they have a lot of stuff, but realize that there are at least a few different setups for pulleys and brackets for a 258. It may be easier to find a complete engine to scavenge parts from, or to take all the brackets and pulleys from a junk engine. That way you know the parts will work together. Complete 258s are pretty easy to find and inexpensive on the private-party used parts market.

    BTW it's not a V6 ... it's an inline 6. V6s have the cylinders in a V shape, 3 in each bank.

    Welcome from Boston!
