Toying around with swapping in a set of 82 to 86 widetracs in my 75 CJ for several reasons. 1. Instant disk brakes 2. I really like the looks of the widetracs better 3. more stability 4. Slightly higher gearing for lower RPM and or more top end and 5. they are free as I already have them.
I will be adding a front sway bar from a CJ-7 as well. ANYWAY....I really don't want to outboard the rear springs or swap to 76 on CJ or YJ springs as I don't want to cut on the frame at all. I'm even keeping the original axles stored in the garage....... The front went in no problem at all. I know about welding on new perches. My question is the leverage placed on the Model 20 tubes as in this being a pre 76 CJ with post 82 axles, the springs are way closer to the pumpkin then they are to the wheel. My plan "B" is to return to the original rear axle, uses 2 inch wheel spacers on it to match the front and regear the front to match the rear. I dislike wheel spacers though...any thoughts?? thanks

Heres a pic of the spring distance I would be looking at.

set the spring purches for the narrower frame. If you are worried about the axle tube strength then build a truss for it.

I run wide tracks now. I ran a Nt with spacers on the rear for a long time. Finally bent an axle shaft at the bearing from the added stress of the spacer.

I had Currie build me a custom 44 axle with 9 inch outers to wide track width. This allowed me to use the gears and detroit from my 44 and lowered my overall replacement cost.
