My tranny cover was getting pretty butchered after two tranny swaps so I decided to spruce it up a little:

I must have welded up at least a dozen holes in the dash from previous owners and a few from me. I just noticed that I put the dash plaque back on upside-down. Oooops. I think I'll leave it that way just for GP's. When I get back from my vacation I'll be able to pick up my radiator that I'm having re-cored and my underseat tank that is being boiled out. By the first of May I should be on my way to the muffler shop. I'm trying like hell not to leave "anything for later". You know, the stuff you could put off 'til later after you get it running. When the exhaust is done I just want to drive it and not be re-visiting any mechanical stuff for awhile. But then, this was going to be a 4-6 month build when I started it 2 years ago. I've built up an incredible Honey Do list since then. Thankfully I have a wife who loves to wheel and is excited about going this Summer.

It's kinda tough leaving when I'm so close to finishing, but hey, I'm going somewhere I can actually wear shorts. And I get to see my grandsons! Hope all this fricken snow is gone when I get back!

The tach is a Sunpro. I've had it so long I don't rember where I got it. The Heep may look good, but can it wheel? That's the un-answered question. Won't be long though.

Very good point posi. My jeep aint lookin too hot right about now, what with the different color paints, banged up fender and botched bed liner i did in the tub but I am REALLY REALLY wanting him to perform well. So far, i dont see why it shouldn't what with the better suspention, 4x lower crawl ratio, longer wheelbase, power steering, wider stance and lockers front and rear. But you never know till it hits dirt, rock or whatever. Will be making a few local lagrange OHV park trips before anything big. cant wait to see yours in action.

Finished up all the fuel lines finally. Both tanks are in. I was able to start the engine yesterday, but only ran it for a few seconds as I don't have any exhaust system in yet or an O2 sensor. Next week on that. I know this looks like a Rube Goldberg plumbing job, but it had to be this way. (For those of you under the age of 40 you may have to look up Rube on Wikipedia ha ha) I have to install the skidplate and the anti-wrap bar and I should be ready for the muffler shop. The upper valve is for the fuel return line, the lower vertically mounted valve switches between the two tanks and feeds the fuel pump. I have a jumper wire from one valve to the other so they switch together. I have one toggle switch that switches the valves and the sending unit so both tanks read on the stock gauge. I'm working on a little skidplate to protect the lower solenoid as it hangs down below the frame about 3/4". I had no choice on that unfortunately.

Thanks guys. I added an inch to the height of the aux tank at the last minute and it caused an un-expected problem when I went to install it. The tank has to gravity feed to the pump and with that extra inch it almost wasn't high enough. But, it all worked out. I got an appointment at the muffler shop for next Wed. I'm going to take it for a spin on Thurs, then have to go to Sacramento for the weekend. I'll get to take it out to the Nevada desert the following week to thrash it around on the rocks a little.

Spent the day working on the skid ofr the fuel tank solenoid. First, take a nice piece of 1/4" wall 4" x 6" rectangle tube.

    Split it diagonally.

Rough cut with a cutoff disc.

A little cut here and there, bend it with a BFH and weld it up.

Grind off the ugly welds and hit them with a flapper.

    Ready for paint.

All I have left is to drill and tap the frame for this and bolt it on. Pics of it installed tomorrow. I drilled a drain hole in it before I painted it.

Cool! I like skid plates, especially custom ones. Fuel lines look good too.
