I installed a dual reservoir master cylinder from Herm's in the Jeep. Additionally I put a new exhaust system in it. After both it turns out that the rod that needs to be shortened for the master cylinder is not short enough and is making the brakes drag. Unfortunately I can't get the new exhaust apart to get to the rod. Advice is appreciated on how to take the exhaust pipe out.

How is the exhaust put together? Clamps or welds? Can you disconnect it from the manifold and get some leeway?

The pipes are clamped and there are dimples in the pipes from the clamps. I tried disconnecting at the manifold but there is no room to move anything.

Yeah the clamps will do that, very very hard to undo, might as well be welded.

You could try heating up the junction until its cherry hot and try to beat it apart with a hammer then.

There is always the option of adding access hole in the floor.

You could also try jacking up individual wheels and see if you can get enough flex out of the frame the give you a little extra room to work, but working under that would seem dangerous.

Finally you could cut out the offending section of pipe. any exhaust shop could make you a new section of pipe to replace it.

This is what I figure is the only option. The thing is that it is a brand new exhaust system and I really didn't want to hack it up but I don't think I have any other options.:(

You could heat up the pipe where the clamp dents are and then buzz it off with a air hammer.

If your exhaust is a standard side, the make couplers for it. Just cut pipe once in a straight area- drop pipe out of way- complete brake work the use coupler to connect your pipe together. Clamp or spot weld coupler.
