Working on the body of my 56 cj-5 , soon the be a cj-6. I am stripping paint, and aside from the bondo, streetsigns, washing machine tub for a floor, wood backing, and poorly stick welded angle iron, I seem to have 4 colors of paint. I wonder what the original color was? First layer is a red oxide ( I assume primer) , next layer a light tan, next layer orange, and finally flat black.
Do you folks think the original was orange or tan?
    thanks

    I vote Tan

Look upunder the dash or take out the speedo and look at the edge of the hole.
Most likly the speedo was not removed to repaint.

My Jeep had the original color behind the serial number plate.

I think the tub was removed at one time, cause the whole thing is flat black. Under the dash, firewall, behind the serial number plate. It doesn't really matter, it's just a curiosity thing. I like to know the old girl's history.
