Sunday's efforts

Well it ain't a jeep pic, but it something I'm going to put to good use working on my jeep! Took some time off of working on the jeep and found a fella selling some 3" angle iron for cheap. I put the little welder to use and framed me up a heavy duty work bench.

Up until now I've been stooping to the floor to use the chop saw and making welds on stuff and it's taking it's toll on my back. I've still got work to do on it, but my days of sitting and/or one kneeing it on a dirty garage floor are about over.

 

When you put the top in, remember thicker is better.

 

I agree on the thick top. I use to have family that worked for Morgan trailer bodies and could get scrap pieces of either the oak or the apple tone material they put in the floors of the trailers. Usually 1.25" oak for my bench tops. After a divorce I haven't really been able to get a shop back together until now.

This bench is going to be my wood working / metal working hybrid. I got the sliding extension rack built the other morning and ground off some of the rust and primed it. The extension rack will be my welding table and hold chop saws when I use them. I'll make a jig depending on which chop saw I use to level it out with the bench top. I'm working on a cam to hold the extension true the table top. Got this done along with some new lights hung in the garage. Doors and lumber are due next and then it's back to addressing the needs of my sixer.
