Alright, you guys know I am in the middle of an MC2100 fandango: I rebuilt it correctly, but have been having a few problems.

    - I figured out that using ANY of the vacuum ports on a 2100 is WAAAAAAY too much vacuum for an HEI vac advance. So, I blocked off the vacuum port to the HEI.

    - My timing is set by ear. One Red C__t Hair (R.C.H.) retarded behind pinging.

    - I have 47 jets in her.

    - I DID get the fomoco automatic choke to work. (No need to rig a carter autochoke onto the side...)

    - A/F screws are 2 turns open.

    - Vacuum gauge coming tomorrow.

    QUESTIONS:

#1: Why do I smell raw fuel 10 mniutes after shutting down? Is fuel boiling off through a tube somewhere?

#2: When I start her up, She does auto choke. However, she does not automatically "fast idle, so I have to keep her revving for awhile, or she'll sputter and backfire. DO MC2100s have a fast idle built into them?

#3: What is this thing, and do I need it? If I DO need it, how can I check to see if it is operating correctly?

I know I am leaving you guys with a PILE on unknowns here. Exact timing, power valve, etc. At this point, I am still trying to fix the BIG issues before I get into the nitty gritty. I gotta tell you, I am about to take a sledgehammer to the fuel system, and sell a kidney for a FI setup.

I assume that vacuum line coming out of the air cleaner is plugged inside the air cleaner? (otherwise it will suck dirt)
"sputter and backfire" too rich, loading up on fuel. Then firing in the exhaust or air cleaner is timing.
What is the fuel pressure going to the carb? If it is too high it will lift the floats, and pump fuel through the carb causing to too rich problem.

I can't tell you about your "doohickey" on the carb with out getting the whole picture, sorry

It looks like you have an MC2150 to me. Its the same as a 2100 but it has that doohickey which should be the density altitude compensator.

as for how to hook it up, I don't know.

No, the aneroid is different. That's the choke pull off on a 2150. (I presume it's a 2150 from this).

The open nipple on the air horn is an air supply for the choke stove, which connects to the thermoelectric choke. You need hot air going into the choke cover for it to work properly.

If adjusted properly and assembled correctly, it will fast-idle fine.

You need to time it properly before you can accurately adjust the carb or anything else, no mater what other problems your having.
