Can anybody tell me if early cjs had balanced driveshafts ? I see no balance weights or holes on mine, just a tube with factory ugly welds.

    thanks

    All factory driveshafts are balanced.

If there are no weights then probably not. Just a tube and ends when welded by machine they came out pretty close. All shafts within last thirty years seem to have balance tell-tales.

This is a 56 cj. I realize that all newer factory shafts are balanced, but was that always the case? Having done a fair amount of precision balancing, I know of no way to dynamically balance without adding or removing weight. My shafts have no balance telltales internally or externally. This makes me think it came from the factory unbalanced. If they should be balanced, what level of balance do they need?

Does it have a vibration? Are the yokes in series- u-joints lined up with each other? Don't fix it unless it's broke.

i kindof doubt they balanced them. They are so short and skinny in diameter plus jeeps dont go fast.

They should be balanced. I'm not sure you could buy one new, that isn't anyway.

You might get away with not balancing in front, but I wouldn't try it on the rear driveshaft.

It is in the build stage. I am currently mocking up , both my shafts will end up being longer. As i stated, I doubt they were balanced from factory. I am just curious. The shafts that will go in before it hits pavement will be balanced , but my mock ups won't be.
