i have a t86 trans and cannot find where the reverse light switch would go in, herm said it would be on the shift tower. i can't see any spot where it could go. if anyone has a pic or something that would be great. do they all have a spot for a switch? t 90 and t 86?:?

If it is capable of having a reverse switch, on the top of the transmission there will be a threaded hole where the switch goes. These work by contacting the reverse shift rail in the shifter top. Here's an example of a reverse light switch: http://www.smpcorp.com/markImage0.aspx?img=NS20.jpg

If there's no hole for the switch, your best option is likely a toggle switch on the dash, with a big, bright indicator light so that you don't forget to turn off the backup lights.

my t-86 has the boss cast in the shift rail, but not machined out.

could mount a push/pull type switch on the shifter instead of dash. would need a mounting tab welded on, and some wires going down through the boot.

The 67 CJ5 (F134,3 speed) I just found does have backup lights (and they work) but I have not had time to investigate any thing on it yet.

Or get a shifter top that accepts a back up light switch.

thanks for all the help i called "herm" to see if he maybe had a shift tower that excepts the switch and sure enough he does, so if anyone else wants or needs one he is the man to see.

FWIW, I've been needing one for about 2 years, but no one can seem to find the reverse light switches (turner, krage, vatozone, etc...) for the t-14 or t-15. From what I remember they're a common part to the t-90 and t-86 as well.

Might be better left alone unless you've already got it in hand?? Of course, if anyone can prove me wrong, i'd love a link to an available reverse switch.

From the previous response on my T14 I took mine in and they matched it up from the catalog of pics at Napa. Had to wait a day for it come down from Denver then went back in and matched it up and got the clip for it at the same time. No issues since it went in.

I stand corrected... now to track down a decent parts store around here.

    Thanks for the information
