Could this seating arrangement be stock. The drivers side is a rear seat modified to fit. PO purchased this new in '57, and stated that this is original. What is everyone's opinion. I have known this Jeep for 30 years and have never seen it otherwise. I would prefer to go to original bucket seats for the front and restore the bench back to a rear seat.

    Definitely original. Very cool. Keep'em.

Not sure what the option list looked like in 1957, but I would expect these are an extra-cost option. By the '70s, the single bucket seat was standard, and both the passenger bucket and bench seat were options.

Interesting - it looks to me like the passenger side seat in this era is the same seat, regardless of whether the driver's bench seat or the standard "bucket" is chosen. In the '70s, the passenger seat matches the driver's bench seat, with a flat cushion and back.

I've got the same seats, different frame though considering I have a rear gas tank. I agree, they look cool, but I hate mine. They just came out and new buckets are going in.

W/O calls that particular drivers seat the "2/3 type seat".
Your left side has the "1/3 type passenger seat".

Early standard seating was "1/3 type drivers seat" with optional "1/3 type passenger seat".
Some other early CJ5's (1955 through 1971) and later 3B's (1961 through 1965) used what W/O calls the "bucket type" seats.

The "1/3 and 2/3 type seats changed slightly in later years.
2/3 type drivers seats for 4 speed applications are unique.

If these are stock, I'm going to keep them as original. I'm restoring this as a tribute to the gentleman I bought this from, so I want to keep it as original as it was the day he bought it. I have the original bill of sale, but not an itemized list of options other than the Ramsey PTO winch.

I've got an original split bench seat with all hardware sitting in my shop. Pretty cool as both the 1/3 and 2/3 seat backs fold forward for rear access. Originally wanted to install it when the kids were much younger, but never really found the need. Now it's the factory, recovered low backs all the way...

Here are original 60/40 seats, his looks to be a "modified" back seat.

The pictures Russ posted made me look at mine. It's like his, the beginning of the seat is over a bit to allow for the gas tank filler. The one in question is close to the edge, above the gas tank filler, and different mounting. Maybe the original ones were a modified back seat?
