I'm rebuilding my rochester 2bbl. I bought the kit ,I dissembled and cleaned it in carb dip. I am all set to put this sucker back together.( This is my first attempt at rebuilding a carburetor) The thing that is throwing me for a loop is the ball that goes into the accelerator pump hole. It seems to be stuck and will not come out. Should I pry it out or what? I don't want to mess nothing up. I tried to blow it out with air, I push and pulled on it a little,. Now what? Thanks for any advice.

That is a very common problem on the 2g carbs. I have personally had experience with that little ball twice.both times the ball won..there is a trick to getting it unstuck.lots of info in search . good luck.

If it is like mine-- someone put the wrong ball in the wrong hole. I did have a thread showing pic's of where I drilled hole in the bottom of carb to insert stiff wire and drive it out. May have them some where on my comp. Will look. Look at your kit info close. Will tell you which size ball goes where. There are 2 of them.

Thanks for the info. I did a search and came up with some ideas. I think i'll try heating it in the oven first( as soon as my wife leaves). If I have to drill it, what do I use to fill the hole? Epoxie would be easiest if it would hold up. Just how important is that check ball.?

It allows fuel in at the bottom of the accel pump then blocks it from returning back to the float bowl when the pump is on the down stroke. This forces two streams of fuel through the cluster assy and down into each venturi.

P.S. I plugged my drill hole with JB Weld. Works good. Be sure not to put too much in the hole. Just enough to cover.

drill the hole a size that you know you can tap and then screw a bolt onto it if there is room.
