still overheating

    I would tend to disagree. There are folks who have used a stock rad from an F-head to cool a small V8, and while this setup is marginal, it did work.

    My vote is for the shroud.

    Some one ask for a picture of the cross member. so here thay are.
    Cross member from a 75 CJ5 put on a 70 CJ6.

    This is from below, you are looking ate the mounting bolt for the grill and the rad in the back. You also can see the pulley on the fron of the engine.

    Have you tried running it without a thermostat in it? My 4 cyl. would overheat with thermostat in. I tried two different thermostats and they both wouldn't open up when they were installed. they both opened when i tested them in hot water though.

    Hi Guys,

    I know this is an older post, but what was the conclusion? I am having a similar problem with my 304 currently. I have had the radiator cleaned and rebuilt, new hoses, new 160 thermostat but we did an IR test on each side of the motor and the passanger side is getting MUCH hotter than the driver side. Currently we are in the process of a reverse engine flush...i'll let you know if it works. :(
