Just bought another 61 CJ 5 with recently rebuilt engine (F134) T90/ 18. I had some clutch linkage issues that I cleared up. (pedal was binding on body). pedal now travels to the floor and pedal play is within spec. Occasionally, i can't shift into 1st or reverse (at stop). I've searched this and tried holding in the clutch and shifting into second. Shifting into second has helped before. Thing is last time this occurred, I couldn't get it into 2 or 3rd either (at a stop).

I shut down the jeep (stopped the motor), put the jeep in gear and was able to drive around fine. Even able to then shift into 1st and reverse at stop. Then gear grind again.

Don't like grinding the gears. The transmission feels real tight otherwise.

I haven't checked the level of gear oil yet (will do today). Is there any other thing I should be looking for?

    Thanks,

    scott

I'd say you still have linkage issues, basically slop in the linkage somewhere. Maybe wear points that intermittently catch good and are sometimes too sloppy. Having good pedal adjustment is just the beginning of the battle. :coffee:
