This cj5 sat in the woods for at least 15 years. I'm the 2nd owner, and it is rust personified. The frame, drive train, and engine are finished, and now I'm starting on the body (or what's left of it). I know a new tub would be easiest, but I'm into pain and suffering, so I'm trying to recreate the body.
Does anyone have a good way to separate the lap and spot welded seams, such as between wheel housing and side panel, or gas filler housing and side panel. Also lap seams at body / firewall junction or front floor / floor brace? I'd like to use whatever available body metal is still there (after de-rusting) and fabricate patches where possible. Any sugestions are appreciated.

Thanks for the help. Since $ are in short supply, I'll probably go with the Harbor Freight tool. For the most part I've had good luck with their products (for the $ spent).

I just looked at one in the HF store today. It actually looks decent. Of course, the proof is in the cutting . . .
