So I am putting a dodge 3.9 in my 56. The motor is almost done, transfer case is almost done. Time to start thinking about the gas tank. I don't want under seat. Anybody have an opinion on the tank and pump? The 3.9 is a multi port injected motor.

I put a 5.0 HO fuel injected motor in my CJ6. I used a fuel tank from a mid 90's Wrangler ( with a little modding) and the pump for the 6 cylinder motor....so far it's worked great.....35-40 pounds at idle, more at wide open

I think that if you can run an in-tank pump like BKD you will be happier with it.
I am running a Mopar/HESCO MPI on my 258 and originally used an external fuel pump and pressure regulator, mounted on the fame near the tank. I had alot of problems with vapor lock between the pump and the tank (the suction side where the fuel boils at a lower temperature). I tried all kinds of things to cure it, mostly because I liked the option of readily getting to the pump to change it on the trail if it went bad. (I actually changed it once alongside the road in Moab Utah and found that the pump was fine, but had vapor lock).
I was never able to completely eliminate vapor lock with an external pump and eventually went with an in-tank pump, which cured the problem. I have seen several articles about building an in-tank pump and modifying the tank, but I eventually went with the Genright tank and YJ fuel pump module.
