    Hi All;
    I read some of the older posts regarding this subject and I want to be sure I am understanding it correctly before I start.
    Dana 27 front end. Warn lockomatic hubs.
    The hub has to be removed to get the brake drum off...Is this correct?

    yup. under the hub you will see a big nut with little holse in the face. use a screwdriver to hammer it loose ther will be a washer in between then another big nut. then the bearings and its off. you may need to loosten the brake shoe adjuster if theres a rust ring holding it on

    Before you "hammer it loose" check to see if there is a small allen-head set screw in that locking ring. if there is, back it off a couple turns and the lock ring should spin right off. BTW- there is a regular socket for getting those rings on & off, it won't damage them like a screwdriver will. ;)

    The locking ring I'm referring to is part number WO30 on page two of this factory parts list. If you clean off all the old grease, the set screw will be 90* from one of the two holes for the pin-drive socket. HTH. :)

    the big socket is only 10 bucks or so.
    do yourself a favor and dont beat on it with a screwdriver and hammer.
    i just took my hubs off a few weeks ago.

    forgot about the set screw they sometimes have. Unklebill the big socket doesnt work on the outer nut on the lockomatics because they are just round with no hex to grab onto

    Well, hubby got the hub and brake drum off after much cursing. What we thought had been a leaking wheel cylinder has turned out to probably be a wheel seal. It's oil/grease that is on the brakes and not brake fluid. Wheel cylinder looked real good. Someone has done some work in this jeep. The next problem was getting to the brake resevoir. The nut/cap was stripped and it broke in getting it off. Don't like that being down there under the floorboard. The brakes themselves looked pretty good. I showed hubby the diagram of the hub assembly and he said some of those parts were not there.
