Well, this should be interesting. I've begun the swap from the t150, 3 spd in my '77 CJ5, to a NP 435. I have the trans and t-case out as well as the clutch and my parts from Novak are in the garage, all shiny and new. I've never taken a transmission apart, so wish me luck! lol.
Disassembling and re-assembling the tranny is going to be the hardest part, I believe. The 6.68:1 first gear should make the effort well worth while, though. :D

You're going to love the NP 435. I put one in my 75 CJ5 16 years ago after first converting to a T18. I just pulled mine out and rebuilt it with Novak's rebuild kit. They're virtually unbreakable in a Jeep and the granny low will make you wonder how you ever got along without it. It'll bolt right up to your existing bellhousing so all you need is the transfer case adapter. If you're using Novak's kit as well just take your time and follow the directions and you'll be fine. Let us know how it turns out...

435's are a piece of cake to tear down just keep track of the parts.

I've been way busy since I took the tranny out. Any special tools I'll need for the dis-assembly/re-assembly?

It's been a long time but I think I needed a puller for one of the bearings.
