Just looking for some verification of facts here.

Some of the documentation I've read states that in 1972 there were 582 half cab commando's produced.
Looking for truth or fallacy in this number.

I have a 72 commando with the build sticker showing '71. I'm trying to figure out the sequential production number. I never know where they start in the numbering. If the info I found below is correct (found the info on this site here's the link if your interest lots of good info I never knew: http://www.earlycj5.com/zoomer/Vehicle_Indentification.pdf )

    So if:

"NINTH thru THIRTEENTH DIGIT - Sequential Serial Number Starting with 00001"

and mine comes in at 1302, I'm guessing its safe to say I have the 302nd 1/2 cab off the line in 72.

What throws me off is the 1 in from of the 302. This is definitely an H code commando.

My 73 after the engine code of A it has 65949, which according to the same book 8700+ full cap commandos where made in 73 so would that put mine around 5949. What's with the 6? (just for reference my 73 is J3A89FVA65949, it's already in the VIN post, no need to put it there again)

No, you have the 1302nd vehicle produced in the 1972 model year. The sequential serial number includes all production, AFAIK.
