I am planning to build my '60 CJ5 as stock but would like to change colors.
If I keep the color to one offered in 1960 but different from original is this still considered "stock"? Would a different color alter it from original?
    Thanks,
    Tommy

Going to vary from one person to the next. Paint codes weren't part of the VIN plate data, although they were sometimes tagged on the pass side if it was a customer ordered color. If it were done in the original enamel process I'd say still stock, just not original, IMHO. And along that same line of reasoning, a repaint, even if in an original color, isn't original, anyway. Although it would still be stock. A repaint to some aftermarket color or multistage process wouldn't be stock or original. In the end, you're the only person that has to like it; do what makes you happy.

Yeah, I think picking a factory color is a good plan. I expect that 99.9% of potential buyers won't know and/or won't care. Pick a color that pleases you.

Only original paint is original. Everything else is restoration or modification to some degree.

    Thanks for the feedback.
I guess it could never be original considering all the rusted out areas and other parts that have to be replaced.
There are just not too many 1960 jeeps that sport all stock equipment.
By definition, I don't see how there could be an "original" 50 year old jeep in existence. If there is it would have to be used VERY little and seldom exposed to the elements.
I think I'll just keep it "stock" although I sure do like the idea of better brakes.
