Just ordered a 2.5" Pro Comp Lift Kit for my 63 CJ5. The leaf springs are said to have an increased spring rate of 10% over stock however they are not reccomended for snow plow use. From the research I did, most of the lift kits out there do not reccomend plowing with their springs. I was thinking of adding either air shocks or spring over shocks for the front to increase the load capacity. Any suggestions out there on what to do? Thanks.

What type of plow do you have now? I'd caution against going too "high"with your lift. A Meyer plow frame runs under the front axle, connecting to the vehicle frame fore and aft. When you put in lift springs, you essentially move the axle farther away from the frame. Go too far and your plow frame will not fit, or will not allow the axle to sit level as it bottoms out on your plow frame. BTDT. You can notch the side plates of the plow frame to get clearance, but you will weaken it. A 6' or 6.5" Meyer shouldn't overstress your new springs too badly, depending on the size of your plow. Adjustable air shocks theoretically can support additional load, but it'll ride like a buckboard. Leave the plow down when not in use, and take it off when not needed. HTH

Thanks for the info. It is a 6' Meyer Plow. I did not think of the effect of the lift on the plow frame. Not sure how adversely a 2.5" lift will effect the mounting of the plow frame. I guess I might be modifying the plow frame, oh well. Just anoter 30 pack and some time behind the face shield.
