I am looking at different rebuild kits for my T86AA and D18 and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I am leaning toward the Novak kit for the D18 b/c of the o-ringed intermediate shaft and am thinking about going with them for the T86AA kit as well. Anyone used any of these? If so, are you happy with them, if not what was the problem(s)?
    Thanks,

I did see herm had them, I am just not sure if either has any pluses or minuses. Novak wants a lot more, but I wonder how the actual components compare?

In the past, lots of folks have had issues with early wear on the intermediate shaft on the cheaper kits, using imported shafts. I know both Novak and Herm make their own, I think both are o-ringed.

Herm can tell you the rockwell hardness on all the different shafts if you ask.

I ordered a d18 rebuild kit from herm this week, and he told me his and novak's kits are practically the same, but Novak's intermediate shaft had a rockwell hardness of 55 compared to Herm's 53 (or something like that). Whatever it was, it didn't seem to justify double the cost for Novak's kit. I talked to Herm for about 20 minutes about the rebuild and he was very friendly and informative. Overall, I am glad that I invested my Jeep money in a family business and I look forward to rebuilding my case with Herm's kit.

I'll agree with you totally on Herms willingness to explain and discuss his products. I also talked with his for a while about his tranny and t-case kits and I think I will most likely go with his. I didn't figure I would hear any horror stories with either product, but I figured it was worth a post to find out. Thanks to everyone for giving me some feedback.
