Rochester 2G accelerator Pump

So I suddenly was having problems getting my oddfire in my 2A to start. I found that if I poured some gas down the carb, a 2G, that it started right up. After it was running it also didn't accelerate without a cough. Since I know some about carbs, I surmised that the accelerator pump circuit was bad. I just rebuilt the carb a year and a half ago so it should be ok. Then I doubted myself and wondered if I'd left out the check-ball at the bottom of the accelerator pump chamber. I took the carb off last night and took it apart. The check ball was there, but the pump itself had disintegrated. The shaft and plunger were still there but the rubber or viton or whatever the pump skirt was made of was powder and chunks. I went to my CarQuest store where I got the kit and he said it was bad gas. Sounds hoaky to me so I'm asking you guys if it's happened to you, what caused it or if anyone has any answers. I haven't used any HEET or any additives in my gas. I just use the 85 octane unleaded gas.

 

I wonder if a high content of ethenol in the fuel caused it. But hey i think you just figured out why my jeep hickups and doesnt start without gas down it. Thanks

 

Yeah, try a different brand of kit. If you got an old stock kit, the parts could have been effected by the ethanol in modern fuel.

any kits still come with the leather accelerator cup ?
mine is still leather
