I replaced my gear damaged dana 25 with a 27 that I bought from a guy who rolled his jeep. I noticed that the spring perchs are not on the same plane. there is at lease 10 - 15 degree difference, could the axle tube turn in the pumpkin in a rollover(how are they connected?) I notice I have more camber now, are the shims on the king pin bearings for camber adjustment or just to pact the bearing to the right pressure? does the 27 have more camber than the 25? the jeep does not wander and I used a shim on one perch.
also this axle has selectro heavy duty hubs anygood or not? The warn hubs on the 25 are still good so I could switch them
    Thanks guys
    James

James I have these hubs and have been happy so far. Sometimes I do have to use an oil-filter wrench to disengage them though.

I had the Selectro hubs on a '57 CJ5 and liked them enough that I bought a NOS set for my '59. Milemarker now sells them, and have given me great service -

I don't know if the 27 is supposed to have a different steering angle (caster) from the 25 but 10-15 degrees is a HUGE difference! Have a competent alignment shop (older type w/ frame tools etc., big truck alignments) check it for you. The shims on the kingpin bearing caps are for bearing preload only.

Thanks william , the 10 -15 degee difference I`m referring to is with the perchs that the springs sit on, not in the camber. sorry for the confusion. Is there any camber adjustment? Perhaps the spring perches were welded that way. I was wondering if there was any way for the axle tube to turn or move at the pumpkin
    connection point. thanks again

I doubt the tubes would twist in a rollover. They could bend though. If you have an angle finder put it on top of the kinpin (if you have a nice flat area) and see what the angle is. I think it should be between 4 to 7 degrees positive. This is what I did on my D30 when I welded the perches on.
