Your doing really good!!! It looks like what I started with. Mine was parked broken down for15 years. But the price was right.

Re: To build or not to build?

Got the hood stripped and sanded today. Took one whole day!! Had to apply stripper 3 times there was about 5-6 coats of paint on the hood along with 3 small spots of bondo. Plus the air compressor I had could not keep up with the 6" DA sander I used. It was cool and windy out so I did not mind working on the jeep. Gonna wipe the hood down with some metal wash tomorrow, and work on the underside some more. Here are a few pics.... the hood was not quiet finished when I took the photos but it was dark when I did complete it. Man I feel great, seems like I am making progress.

K guys, got the tub removed this weekend. Good news is I believe my frame is in pretty good condition, all mounting brackets seem to be attached with minimal rust on the frame. Bad news is the body is really rusted. I am not sure if my metal work skills i.e. none, can handle this job. Gonna think on it awhile. Got a few photos for ya.....
    Rust, rust more rust..

This was not attached to frame at all...

What is this? (driver side rear corner)

Plan is to begin clean up and paint on frame and grill, and hood, then consider tub repair or purchase. If purchase SAVE SOME DOUGH!!

Builld it, it is a lot of fun and you know what you have and how it works. It is much easier to know where everything is when somthing goes wrong.

Thanks! I am gonna build it. Wish I could change the name of my thread. Saving now for fenders and windshield frame.

Been a LOOOOOONG time since I updated thread, but here is a small report. I purchased fiberglass tub and fenders, also finished removal and spent this weekend working on frame, wirewheeled everything, treated entire frame with OSPO let it sit over night, and primed this morning, gonna finish top coat this afternoon. I realize it would have been better to remove motor/tran/axles etc. however that is a little advanced for my amateur skills. Next on to do list is address fuel lines, they are in bad shape, purchase body mount kits and wire harness then mount fiberglass body. Here are some photos......

Reinstalled fuel tank, welded bolt onto 4wheel shifter because old one was bent, welded cross member in rear that had broken loose from frame. Dropped both drive shafts in preparation of pulling transfer/transmission to check alignment of throwoff arm. Busy day today!!

Spent the afternoon Sunday detaching my housing from the rear of engine. The throwout arm had come loose, so I had to remove housing, tranny, transfer case to get to bearing, arm, spring and pivot ball. I have some pics, will post. First, a few questions, while the tranny is detached should I do any maintanence to the clutch, flywheel etc? The clutch and fingers look to be in great shape. I am considering removing whole tran and degreasing, pressure washing painting then lubing all joints etc. Is this ok? I have ordered new spring ball and arm, however I cannot find the bearing. Any suggestions are welcome.
Earlier in the week I finished fuel system, ran CUNIFER instead of steel or rubber, it is a steel/like line used on hotrods in Europe, VERY EASY TO WORK WITH. I Also finished filler and vent hose assembly, used a 73-75 fill hose and 78+ vent hose from Quadratec, called Willy's Overland and they DO have the vent fitting to join vent hose to fill hose, stainless.
    Here are some pics......

Ok finished pulling trans today. I wanted to degrease and clean up and did not have a engine puller/hoist, so I improvised and used the ol Ford 3000. Check out my photos..... Comments welcome!!

Hope you guys enjoy the pictures. I am really enjoying the rebuilding process. I can honestly say I have finished the fuel system today, completed running line, fill and vent hoses. It fills nice to say I fully completed part of this project!!

Wow, TT, things look great. When I started to read your post, I thought that you and I were at the same level re: knowledge, but you appear to have advanced yourself substantially. Can I ask what resources you are using?

I have a '67 CJ5 that I aquired about a month ago and I'm just getting started on.

    Mike,

Not sure what you mean by resources. But the key ONE I have found is constant research beginning on Early CJ-5, then any other website I can glean info from, I have purchased a Haynes manual but it is limited at best. The other key to getting the job done is perserverence, dream of a beautiful jeep, blood, sweat and beer!!! I am glad you commented, I have been wondering if anyone was following my thread.
