What are you using as a charge system? 6V gen, 12V gen, 12V alt, and is your regulator serviceable, meaning can you open the cover with screws or is it riveted? Need more info.

I'm running a 12 volt generator system. The regulator is serviceable or atleast you take off the cover and see the coils and such. I beleive it's a delco unit.

Ok. Your regulator has an ignition wire running to the reg. Do you have power to it when key is on? reg should be tabbed (w/screws) or phenolic plug and should be marked I=ign F=field (going to gen) and B+ or Bat. Is this what you have? Do you have a good ground wire from reg base to gen?

Yes that is the regulator I have I checked and fixed the ground ( it was a little dirty) and it started charging again a little bit off of idle. I have an amp gauge thats reading a two amp charge just a little off where I have set idle with no load (lights, fan horn ECT...). With a load the gauge is reading about fifteen amps. Should it be Higher. Thanks for all the help so far

Depending on the type of armature and field coils and of course the generator output is also geared to the RPM, you can adjust the field coil relay in the regulator but you will have to have a pretty good volt/amp tester along with knowing what the max ratings are for the gen internals i.e. internal part nrs and/or resistive measurements. You will also have to have or have access to the manufacture specs for the gen and reg. Regulators are designed so as not to exceed gen output design. Hence various regs for various requirements. You may not be able to get more than 25-27 amps from a gen designed for standard car. However that should be sufficient for jeep with no extras. HTH Walt
