    Hi Everyone,

Jon, the other half of Johnny and Sandy would like to know if anyone out there has information/pictures of the original seats for a 1964 CJ5? Does anyone have leads as to where to get the seats? He would also like to know if anyone knows where to get a good carburetor rebuilt kit for the Carter YF.

I think there may have been other options, but on my '64 CJ5 I have a 60/40 bench seat. The driver side is fixed and is wide enough for a regular-sized driver plus a narrow person. The passenger seat is a "fold and tumble", which means the back can be folded down and then you can tip the whole seat forward to allow access to the toolbox underneath.

I'm a bit on the fence about these. I've picked up a pair of buckets which I'm considering installing, but sometimes I think I'll just have the originals reupholstered. The frames are in good shape, but the upholstery -- not so much. There's enough of the original covers left to possibly use as a pattern.

I can't get to them to take pictures right now, but maybe over the weekend if you're interested. I might consider parting with these if I knew they'd go to a good home. I probably shouldn't be so sentimental about it, but I learned to drive in this Jeep when we were both young.

My biggest misgiving about the design is the fold-and-tumble passenger seat. In a quick deceleration, it tends to tumble the passenger into the windshield. I would want to devise a latch to hold it down.

Strange to hear there wasn't a latch... both my stock factory lowback and the "extra" 60/40 I bought a few years ago have the latches for the passenger side, as well as the catch that mounts to the floor... A mandatory requirement IMHO.

heres my 67 seats. theres a set on ebay now for 90$ buy it now but they look like they might be for a newer jeep with the pivoting mounts. Im probrobly going to sell mine eventually but im hanging onto them for now. The 60/40 bench's are cool and a rare option. Im not sure but i think they may have come standard in tux's

The bucket seats look like the ones that came with my jeep. Unfortunately the seats are not attached to the frame parts are missing. Do you know what the seats look like underneath? I've been told that the seats I have are not the original seats for a 64, do you know if your seats were also in the 64?

The 60-40 split bench seat is cool, because you don't see them that often. They also allow sitting 3 across in the front on occasion. However, you slide around a lot, especially on the trail. The buckets are better at keeping you in the seat ... more comfortable too.

The bucket seats above are pretty much unchanged, aside from upholstery colors/patterns, from their introduction (early 60s?) through 1975. In 1976, the seat mounts changed a lot, although the shape of the seats is roughly the same. The '76-on seats are not bolt-on compatible with the earlier Jeeps.

If you have nothing - no brackets or seats - you could advertise here in the classifieds or on the Willystech board. The Willystech board http://www.willystech.com/parts/board.shtml is a good source for parts. You could also try one of the larger Jeep wrecking yards. It will help to put your location in your profile and/or sig, so we can direct you to local sources better.

A hah! I'm finally figuring out how to use this site. Thanks for replying to our thread. Jon is interested in your seats, but would like to do more research. He hasn't even had the jeep for a month. He would appreciate it if you would send a photo of the seats. If he decides to go with a 60/40 seat he will definitely keep you in mind if you are still interested in parting with the seat. Jon is a purest, so I know he will give the seat a good home.

I have original 64 seats in pretty good shape...they just have a few tears in the upholstery. I'd be happy to take a couple of pics for you. I'm looking for original 66 seats if anyone knows where I can get a decent set of them.

    Hi Cathi
If its easier to email me a photo via my email, it is JonLilleyStudios@aol.com.
I personally haven't figured out how to attached a pic. to this forum.
The seats I have may be for your 66, all I know is that they aren't the ones for my 1964.
Tey look like the ones pictured above in jeep 2003 members 1967 CJ 5.
The ones I have are in better shape and you can have them if you like.
I first need to track down the correct ones for my jeep.
Then if you are interested I'll just email, write or call you.
    Guess that all.

This is my '66 DJ5. The seat frames are from a '74 CJ6. As you can see they fit fine. ( a little issue of the seat not centered exactly, but close enough I don't mind, and I had to reweld the rear drivers mount it was in the way of the gas tank.) I tried to use my '64 CJ5 seats temporarily and the drivers fit fine but the passenger floor brackets were different. Not sure when they got away from the cast piviot for the passenger seat , it was after '64.
