1960 Universal CJ5

    I have been lurking on this forum for a couple of months gathering information. Unfortunantly I am not finding info on the heater for my rig. Currently the heater unit that is in it, is very large and takes up way too much space. It is located on the passanger side eating up alot of leg room. I do not believe it is stock, hence why I am trying to find out what is stock on these wonderful machines.

    Thanks in advance for any info you can offer. If there is a threat that I have missed please hook me up.

    You don't want the stock heater if you want heat.

    They're called a "placebo heater" for good reason.

    Something like a Mojave heater is what you want.

    I agree. However, the Moab puts out over twice the BTU's, and is physically smaller..;)

    Clint,

    You are a gentleman and a scholar that is exactly what I am looking for!

    According to 60's quote above that model year of jeep did not come with a heater to begin with. Have any more let me know if there are more links for installing that summit heater. Thanks again!

    I said "like", I would include the Moab in that "like" as opposed to a stock type heater. ;)

    Has anyone tried using parts from a moab and " stuffing them in the stock heater box? I really would like mine to look original when done, but actually heat.:) is it just a better fan blower? the Heater core can't be that different can it?

    The heater core is much different. Much larger tubes, and it's aluminum.

    Yeah I saw the link, but I noticed they had two other models:

    The 991101 puts out 12,000 BTU, but the other models put out 28,000 BTU. I was hoping that one of the other models would fit but not sure which one to get.

    I have not tore into the dash yet but have read some people have hooked up defrost, is there an aftermarket adapter that allows you to do that?

    Sorry to resurrect an old post but I wanted to put in a pic of my current heater to see if any of you have seen one like this before. Definitely not stock but needs to be replaced for sure.

    I think I see your problem- thats not a heater, it's a refrigeration unit, the snow is a dead give away. :twisted:

    You should wait until summer, and put that thing on Ebay. List it as

    "I think it is an original early air conditioner, very rare"

    With that pic it will sell!
