    A fellow on Jeepforum.com came across a 70 ish Commando with a D44 having 1.15 x 27 spline axles. Are there any D44 factory 19 or 30 spline axles that will fit after changing diff side gears? This is a tapered axle rearend. This is a real oddity.

    in short, no; look for the more common D44 used in Commandos ?
    the problem is mutilplied by three factors;
    a) it's a centered rear end (both rear shafts equal length); not used in early CJs.
    b) the odd spline/spider gear count
    c) no aftermarket support because of the very few built that way.
    Since later CJs from 1972 and on used a centered D44 with equal length, one piece flanged 30 spline axles, why not look for one of those and salvage what you can of the other to the Jeepster crowd ?
    Postal Jeeps make good donors.

    Are the late model Commando 44's same WMS? as the Jeepsters? or are they more along the lined of a NT axle from a CJ?

    Late Commandos (72 and later) have 30 x 1.312 spline flanged axles. Same rear as 72-75 CJ-5 except the spring perch spacing is different.

    Hmm but WMS? Im running a NT front 30 out of a mid 70's CJ but still the stock 70 44 in my Jeepster. I thought about nabbing a NT rear 44 if I could find one, most of the time I run into 20's for the rear. But if the 73 Commando hat a 52.5 WMS flanged 44 that would be fine with me.

    Late Commando was 50.5" WMS.
