Just like the subject says... They just started doing it all of a sudden the other day. I pulled all 4 drums and nothing is broken, greasy/oily, or leaking. I have the original stock setup and all parts have maybe 20,000 miles on them. The only thing I can think of is start changing left side components until the problem goes away but that's going to be expensive and time consuming. Maybe I'm missing something???

    Are those the self-adjusting brakes?

Floor it in reverse and jam on the brakes. I've read that that is what "sets" them. May not be the case in your rig, but it's worth a shot. Other than that.... jack up the front wheels on stands. Spin each wheel by hand. Adjust the star wheel until the brake slightly drags. Do the same for the other. Then do the reverse/jam thing and then road test. HTH.

Did you check the wheel cylinders?? If they are old cylinders then chances are one of them is rusted. I had one cylinder once have once side rusted fast and the other side working fine. water like to get under the boot and cause havok

Mine are not self adjusting, I should have mentioned that. All 4 corners are on the same circuit also. I guess I'll have to take a closer look at the left front wheel cylinder. It just seems odd to me that it would go bad so soon though. Thanks for the replies

If they're not self-adjusting then maybe that left front just needs to be snugged up.

The 9" cam adjust brakes can be "twitchy", very sensitive to being a little out of adjustment on one side, & if your steering is a little loose it gets way worse. At 20K miles you're well due for an adjustment. Personally I was never any good at adjusting them, always had at least some pull if not the full blown "Ditch Dive of Death". I was advised by an oldtimer to to get a steering stabilizer, that pretty much cured all my problems.

Did you check the drums closely for grooves, uneven wear, etc? How's the master cylinder? No air trapped, pedal not spongy, don't have to pump it at all? Of course as mentioned, how about adjustment?

I'm getting the same symptoms, especially when brakes are wet. And I do have a steering stabilizer. If I'm easy on the brakes I hardly notice it when dry. Maybe someday I'll re-adjust those star wheels.

Mine use to do the same thing. I fooled with adjusting with no real or lasting improvement. It went away when I upgraded to 11" front drums.

I have to say that is one the best and easiest upgrade you can do on a jeep.

    You ought to consider it.

Check the shoes for glazing........if they are glazed just lightly sand and readjust.

Thanks for all the input. I'll try adjusting them first and go from there. The pedal is not spongy at all, so I don't think there's any air trapped. I already have a steering stabilizer, maybe it went bad. I am planning on going to 11" brakes, just need the money to do it. I just spent all my available cash on rebuilding the overdrive :(

If you can find the parts used you might try to upgrade to disc brakes that is the permanent cure for the pulling plus you get much more stopping power. I did this to my 72 can't believe the difference

Mine pull to the right, but I'm pretty sure it's cause the drums are scored. Just another data point.

Sometimes, mine pull to the left. Sometimes, they pull to the right. Most of the time, they stop straight!
